Critical Incident Debriefing

Following a critical or traumatic event, individuals and teams can experience a wide range of emotional, psychological, and physical responses

Shock, confusion, heightened anxiety, irritability, sleep disturbance, or emotional numbness are all common reactions. Critical incident debriefing provides a structured and supportive space to process what has occurred.

My Approach

I operate from a model that focuses on:

  • Enquiring carefully about each person’s experience of the incident

  • Providing space to express the range of emotional responses attached to the event

  • Normalising common stress reactions

  • Eliciting and discussing initial supports and coping strategies

The intention is not to force disclosure or relive trauma unnecessarily. Rather, it is to create containment, reduce isolation, and support early psychological stabilisation.

By acknowledging and processing the experience in a thoughtful way, individuals and teams are often better able to integrate the event and move forward with greater resilience.
